This is a high spatial-resolution visualization of sea-surface temperature based on the work of Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory climate modelers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Previous simulations had 100-kilometer resolution &ndash too large to accurately model climate features such as hurricanes. In this model, resolutions between 10 and 20 kilometers (or finer) reveal eddies at the equator and other climate events.
