Jet noise prediction – an important tool for designing the next generation of quiet, efficient and environmentally friendly propulsion systems – employs a technique called large eddy simulation. Such predictions have become ever more feasible through advances in numerical algorithms and supercomputer hardware. This series of visualizations, from simulations by GE Global Research, depict animated jet exhaust flow from single and dual-flow jets. These animations were produced at Argonne National Laboratory from simulations on Argonne’s IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer.
